Hi

I have just switched to a powder form of glucophage because I really struggled to swallow the tablets. Now I find my self gagging badly whenever I take this with 150ml of water as instructed. the taste is awful! Can I take this in a glass of sugar free squash instead?

I have tried my surgery but getting through is major challenge. I obviously don't want to stop taking this until i get and answer.

Any ideas?

Forgive me for saying this but it sounds like a psychological problem. Since you know it is Glucophage it wouldn't matter if it was solid, liquid or in a squash drink, you just gag at the thought.

Try it in a squash drink. The fact that you ask about it on here says that you have not tried it and you don't want to take it.

Mind you, if it is that difficult to take then I wonder if the benefits are worth the trouble.

You may want to try Metabet SR by Actavis -- it's the same medication as Glucophage SR, it's just a much better product.

The tablets are less than half the size of the Glucophage SR tablets, and they have a slippery coating that makes them easy to swallow and covers up the bitter metformin taste. They worked just the same as Glucophage SR. I was given them one month when the local chemist ran out of Glucophage.
