Hello all, my Nurse has put me on Metformin (x1 500mg tablet a day) and i was just wondering if there is anything i need to know about it and how others have got on with Metformin. I tried to resist taking it but unfortunately my HBAIC has gone up to 7.5 from 7.2 so the Nurse wants to see me again in March to see how i've got on with it. I've only been taking it for one week so far. Thanks

have you been told that metformin could upset your stomach
the best thing to do is cut down on your carbs
also, like me as type2 and other type2,s here, have bought a monitor to test levels

I've been in metformin and the ordinary generic ones gave me a very ahem....runny tum. Then like so many on here asked for the slow release ones. Much better. Metformin will help your readings a bit but like Ally said its really down to diet and cutting carbs right down. Potatoes pasta bread rice baked cakes biscuits and pastry...watch out for hidden carbs in things like baked beans and ready meals. Its not so much the sugar but the total carbohydrate ..read labels and you really do need a monitor.

Hi Alliebee,
Same line as the others upset stomach, but to be honest after a few days mine wore off and its only now and again. I feels so much better its worth it. Im on 500mg twice a day, so not too bad. Also im quite new to this too.
