Hi all,

I'm off to Mumbai later this month on a business trip.

Does anyone know if there are any problems with with transporting my metformin tablets in to India?

Given the length of flight I will need to have a small supply in my hand luggage & the rest can stay in my hold bag.

Have searched the FCO website & this forum, but no information found.

I assume that if I take the tablets in their box, together with a copy of my UK prescription then I will be ok?

Thanks

Landman

I am not type 2 but a type 1 diabetic, last year I was working and traveling to and from India on a regular basis, taking my insulin with me and never had a problem with Indian customs :!: . You will not have any problem carrying Metformin, or any other items for treating your diabetes, just be sure to have a letter from your Doctor stating that you are a diabetic, and that you need to carry theses things with you.

Hi Landman,

I have taken my metformin with me to India and had no problems. But it is always a good idea to carry all medicines in your hand luggage. Anything packed in hold luggage is likely to magically vanish en route. Also a good idea to carry a letter from your GP explaining that you have diabetes and must carry your medication with you. GPs often make a small charge for a letter of this type.
