Taking my first blood sugar

Hi I'm new to this taking my own blood sugar levels I took it this morning and it said 9.9 what should I be aiming for I'm type 2 newly diagnosed

Iv had a chest infection these last few days and I'm now of work for a week

Hi was this a fasting reading or a post meal reading?

Fasting should be between 4.0 and 7.0

Post meal should be anything under 8.5

If u had a chest infection it will raise your blood sugar..its the body's natural defense against infections..it will send your bloods haywire until the infection is cleared up.
