Taking Prednisolene or steroids

I have asthma and have been taking steroids for it for years. I have type II diabetes. I am now finding that even on a low dose of steroids 20mg my sugars are instantly leaping into the high teens and even early 20's, it is making me nervous of taking the steroids I need for my asthma. I take Gliglazide for the high sugars. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Also I can't get my HBAC1 down to less that 7.2% I do eat quite a bit of fruit, should I stop having so much. I have had type II for ten years but find that things do change quite a bit at times.

I take the Metformin but oh lord it is so gassy!

I suggest you go talk to a pharmacist. they know about interactions between medicines and might know about treatments you could then discuss with your doctor

Thanks, my GP just tells me that the high sugars will not harm me in the short term. He does not seem to understand that the asthma makes me feel terrible, the steroids make me like a raging bull and the high sugars really make me feel awful.

Been there Dipstick, I know how you feel. It was a big dose of prednisolone (for asthma - great, innit? ) which made my vision so blurred that I thought was going blind; that's twhen they diagnosed T2. I was told that steroids cause BSugar to rocket - so much so that my GP said there was no point changing my oral diabetic drug dosage until I had been off the steroids for a while. Ask your GP about it - or as Hanadr said, pharmacists are excellent sources of info too. Good luck!
