Taking time off work for appointments

Hi,
Your boss is in for a big shock.
YOU ARE A DISABLED PERSON NOW and coverd by an act of parlement.

The Disability discrimanation Act made law in 1995 states, Not alowing you to go to appointments is discrimanation against you so is not allowing time for snacks and blood testing, she also has to provide a CLEAN ROOM for you to test.
Just type in Disability Discrimanation Act and print it the give it to her, oh and if she dont like it she can do nothing to you because she will lose a tribunal automaticaly.

I cannot believe how Jessie and Broads have been treated!! :shock: If they give paid time off for antenatal appointments (and pregnancy is, by and large undertaken through choice! ) and for people who choose to play sports/slide down snowy hills on planks then break bits off themselves, then I fail to see how they can justify treating J&B like that. If it were me, I'd work to rule...fortunately I work for the most wonderful person who gives me as much time off as I need, and more besides.
That's self-employment for you... :mrgreen:
 
Like you grumpy I get as much time as I need for appointments etc to deal with my health problems. As long as I tell them in advance and what it's for ie doctor, dentist.
 
Most of these rules are fine for Public sector companies or multinationals but are an absolute pain for very small companies and make running the business almost not worthwhile when you then have to take up the slack yourself. ( This is not aimed at original poster).
 
True. thankfully I work for government so luckier than a lot of people.
 
I work from 5 am till 1 pm so normaly make all my appointments for after 3 pm so as not be make it that bad for anyone, but when it comes to the eye photo, and yes your right i cant spell what it`s called, I take the whole day off and so does my wife as it is so important, I also take all day for my yearly check up.

The retinopathy eye screening? I had mine last month and was okay. Just signs of getting older.
 
Under the DDA act you are disabled and as such your employer has a legal responsibility to make reasonable adjustment for your condition which includes time off for treatment. readjustment to med's. This cannot be recorded as sick leave but they may not have to pay you for the time you are off work.
 
Oh that would be so nice, but pie in the sky, my bosses attitude to diabetes is take no notice and it goes away.
My line manager has already told me to "Leave all my problems including medical ones at home.
Even when I told him I had blury vision "Dont come up hear claiming medical problems" and I drive a 7.5 tonne.
This is the real world.
And if i do take it further im told "Ok bring it on and you will loose"

The CAB are very good at helping to sort out these sort of problems.

As Michael1 states the DDA applies to you.
Unfortunately your employer seems to be living in the dark ages and it may well be that you could end up at a Tribunal ! Be prepared for all eventualities. Log all your dealings for future reference.

No, and even if one tried boss just would not take any notice of one.
Think he would sell up if one did try, he would never get away with half the things he does now.
Example over time is expected but not paid, just over 3 hours last monday, great way to get more profit with no cost, and i thought slavery was dead.
Last year i was told i was one day over my hollidays so i lost one days pay, he would not have it that it was a bank holliday. :evil: :twisted:
 
worked for the same company for several years, work is flexible and so can fit in doctors and similair appointments fairly easily, the work is finished at the end of the month and do probably around 40-45 hours on paper over a contracted 37.5 hours...

managed to finish by thursday on a couple of weeks recently, so the friday was effectively holiday

looks like some people need to change their boss's

Hi, my husband owns a business and he told me that you are entitled to time off for medical appointments but the firm is not obliged to pay you. I make all my appointments in the afternoon where possible but blood tests are always done a.m. and the diabetic photography is always done late a.m. at the latest. I work for a firm of solicitors (part-time, mornings) and they allow me to make up the time. At the moment I am having tests and will be seeing a specialist and for these trips I have to have the day off due to the travelling time. I have so far worked the extra hours to cover the one appointment but I couldn't be bothered for the second one so I booked a day's holiday. I think in the present climate we all feel we have to be extra careful not to upset our employers as jobs are hard to come by. Especially when you are 56 like me with no qualificatons!
 
I start work early and my finnishing time is 1 pm, I always make appointments for after 3 pm but my employer seems to pick these days to send me out again so I have to do unpaid over time and dont get of work untill it`s to late.
I now have pain in both feet I wonder how long it will take to see the doctor or the hospital, or just not bother.

Like i have said remimnd employers of there responceablitys.
