So, you can't take food or drink in the shop I suspect. The pain And stress may make your blood sugar's change. I'd say ask a doctor but most would say, don't get one. Hopefully a type 1 can pop in and answer

I had half of mine done a month ago. I am type 2 but waited until my hba1c was at a level I felt comfortable with, 46. I read some advice saying bloods over 8 is not a good idea for any tattoos or piercings. I actually cancelled my first when I realised my hba1c was too high and waited for improval

Also I guess this is your first? Location can be important. I have tattoos on my arms from years ago pre-diabetes but did hear that some locations you should be more wary of (legs/feet/arms) but with controlled bloods I guess it's okay.

Check out the tattooist, any reviews or see their previous work. I have some cover ups due to bad work, but shouldn't need to, that's my fault but I was also 20 so blame the follies of youth!

Mask, checked temperature on arrival. Filled in form, declared diabetic and all good. The tattooist had diabetics previously so all good. I suspect some may refuse to do it if you are diabetic, but I don't know for sure

Also highly likely in this new world that you will need to prepare by shaving the area too.

Mine is on my chest and I didn't bleed, at all Which was nice. I followed their advice to the letter, unfragranced cocoa butter to moisturise 3 times a day for the first 2 weeks, then twice a day after. Carefully washing and patting dry. Shower only, no soaking

But basically listen to what your tattooist says. Follow their advice. Some will suggest different

For me, No scabbing, normal level of "flaking". I was pleasantly surprised at how well it healed

Enjoy!

Hi I am a type 1 and I have a tattoo on my shoulder and one of my foot and both healed absolutely fine! No troubles at all! Obviously checked you sugar levels before you go, keep hydrated and keep the wounds clean and protected whilst they heal

I have a few and always made sure my BG where under control but that’s as a type 2.
There is a product that many artists use here in Canada. I think it’s called nuskin? It’s used on burn victims as well.
It looks like thick cling wrap and stays in place for 5-10 day’s. No need for fussing with bandages and it’s water proof. Worth asking your artist about it.
Good luck.
