Hi my name is Lin, I have been diagnosed with type 2 and have been googling myself silly and following this site in the hopes I will understand this interesting challenge that has been thrown at me. I reside in South Africa with my awesome hubby and three kids, two cats and two dogs. I'm currently studying at an artelier here, am just less than a few days away from the big 50, love skiing and scuba diving and game parks. Anyway I hope I get this right and send it to the right post/thread, I'll bombard my questions later about me myself and diabetes but just wanted to say hi, this is the best site I have come across and chat later. Thanks so much Lin
 
Hi and welcome. Yes, it is a great site. There's loads on here and there's usually someone around to answer any questions you have.

It's curious to me that there are quite a few posts on this site from people from various countries outside of Britain, and I'm not decrying that in the least, it's perfectly fine of course,...but it's making me wonder what health care provision and patient education facilities and what diab web discussion and information sites are available in other countries,...and if they are adequate or sparse,...it would be interesting to know something about what facilities and treatment provisions are available, or not available, for people in other countries.

One thing is for sure though, it certainly is a worldwide problem, and is rapidly increasing, and I believe that most of the general public are oblivious to the extent of the illness and to it's causes and it's potential consequences.
 
I think it's just that this is a good forum. The Aussie health care is still fine

I agree. Lots of online stuff by Diabetes Australia and the Diabetes Support Service - even if I don't agree with the dietary guidelines. Great support also from doctors and diabetes educators.
 
Without putting the boot in, we don't have the issues that the uk does. Though our system is under threat by the right wing politics
