Hi, my 15 year old, diagnosed T1 in June, is REALLY feeling the cold the past couple of days and I was wondering if this is a common trait of diabetes? He just can't seem to warm up. Blood sugars are well controlled and stable otherwise.

just my guesses..
he may need more carb or more fat,
if he's underweight, I would increase carb
If he's normal or overweight , I would choose the fat and you will see a result in a couple of days if it's dietary
it also might be circulation and needs to have his feet checked

Thanks @jack412

Hes re gained the weight he lost (nearly 3 Stone) pre diagnosis, I have upped the fats today and we will see how he goes. He isnt really a carb fan lately.

Thanks again for responding to me. :)

I missed the June diagnosis, it is early days. they all get a shock at how quickly the healthy weight returns and from what I've read here, the Dr tends to put a fixed high dose and they eat to the insulin..If his weight is getting back to normal, he's right to slow the carbs down, which will reduce insulin

praise that he's testing and taking his meds and correction, ignore the BG readings as much as you can, kids think the meter gives a pass or fail 10 times a day. it's hard on a young self image

I don't know if he's on basal bolus or a pump, but this online course and workbooks may help a bit
There is an online course for background and an idea to it. Free to register

This set of workbooks are worth reading and practising working examples of carbs and doses and corrections. Don't change dose without nurse approval

Hi @jack412, they put him straight on basal/bolus at a ratio of 1:10 for food and 12 basal at night which we have tinkered with to get to good levels and he started gaining his weight back pretty quick. They did offer him a pump straight away, but he declined at the time and is still against the idea now. Im not gonna push that issue with him either. Thanks for the links, I'll go through them later

@Engineer88 his thyroid was tested as part of trying to figure out his weight loss, before they figured it was T1 diabetes, and as far as I know, his levels were fine.

Thank you both for your input, hes still freezing but ive read a couple of people on here complaining of a similar problem. Might be something in it?
