Teeth and so forth

I've been doing my best over last few years of battling against my diagnosis and finally dropping all my meds last year. As a result I am now on slow release insulin and metformin. I have very recently seen a dentist and have had surgery to remove tooth and abscess. The surgery wasn't as detailed as the dentist was very concerned about removing such a large amount of tissue due to my diabetes. He asked what my bleed rate was and I didn't know. 2 other teeth have infections too and they will be dealt with once I have healed from this surgery. I have had high spikes in my blood sugars for 2 weeks now which I guess have been caused by infection. My last HBA1C was 120.

I wanted to make others aware that it is so important to see a good dentist regularly. I saw an NHS one on a 6 monthly basis but it wasn't enough. I am now expecting a bill of over £3000 in the next year to try and save my teeth. This I know is on my shoulders for ignoring myself. I will make every effort from now on.

My dentist is NHS and he is brilliant, due to constant sickness my teeth were at the point of near permanent damage, The work he has done has been fantastic and it cost £36ish. Like everything else there is good and bad in medicine and dentistry private isn't always the best

It's good you've found a good one. You are right there is good and bad in bith NHS and private. I have no complaints about my treatment. This is the first dentist I have found that has good knowledge of diabetes implications on oral health.
