Hi!
I was diagnosed just under 2 weeks ago as a T1 diabetic after a few weeks of symptoms. My sugar levels are still not completely under control but they are slowly coming down. However I feel SO unwell.
Dizzy episodes, struggling to concentrate on anything, constantly exhausted and just generally not feeling myself - this is just everyday. I feel worse now I’m on insulin than I did before knowing I was T1!!
I just want to know did anyone else experience this as their sugar levels were lowering, will this feeling of being unwell end? I’m drained

Sorry to hear you feel so awful. Your body is adapting. As blood sugar lowers, various symptoms arise as you adjust. It does get better.

It gets way better. Give it a few weeks and once everything's under control you’ll start to feel alive again instead of constantly drained. At least that was my experience. Hope it is for you too.

I felt horrendous for about 3 months - my hba1c on diagnosis was over 140 so I'd probably been living with undiagnosed T1 for some time. I had a great consultant in those days who said I was basically going cold turkey from a sugar addiction. Obviously not an addiction in the sense that I was eating it, but that my body was overloaded with sugar

Once he'd described it like that (he also said they don't do cold turkey with drug withdrawal because it's so awful) I realised I just had to stick it out. My eyesight was all over the place, my body couldn't seem to work out what do do with insulin or food, I ached, I felt dizzy etc etc. Thankfully it did get better although I had to change from lantus due to muscle aches after about 6 months.

Hang on in there!

I have been a type 1 for 53 years. It does get better but it is a constant battle. The more stable your control, the better you will feel. Your body will adjust to the glucose overall control you put it under. Even people who are over 200 all the time, get used to it and feel fine. Your body is now on a roller coaster and this initial fatigue, etc will def get better, but it's never easy.
