Hi All

I hope someone can help answer this question I seem to have a really bad stomach which I know can be caused by regular Metformin what is the risks if I temporarily stop taking my meds till i go and see my doctor to determine if a change is necessary or is the advice to keep taking my meds till I go.

I got an agreement with the nurse to stop taking metformin for a few months to see what would happen and I couldn't tell the difference between taking it and not taking it.

I always aim to agree things like this with her unless the medication is causing problems. I had to stop taking statins on the instant due to the legs seizing up. The next two types of statins caused problems and I stopped those. I usually drop her a note or phone the surgery but after I have stopped them. I make it clear that I am unable to tolerate the side effect.

My nurse is happy with this arrangement and said, "I am not here to make matters worse" and if a side effect is bad she understands and, maybe, tries another kind of pill.

The bottom line is that you can stop but let the surgery know that you have a problem

Squire thanks for your reply
yeah I do agree to make doctors/nurses aware of problems or possible ones
as long as it is safe that is what I will do stop and see what happens
