Terrified of going blind

Hi all. I am T2, on insulin for around 15 years, have suffered from retinopathy for around 5 years. My vision has slowly got worse despite regular laser treatment and steady glucose levels, and recent laser treatment on both eyes has left me with blurry vision, extreme reactions to sunlight and shade, and inability to read well even with glasses. I am too afraid to drive, and absolutely petrified of going blind. Anyone else suffering this? I live in Cornwall, but would go anywhere to get treatment to save my sight. I would so appreciate any advice, help, or support.

No advice I'm afraid but plenty of sympathy... Going blind has also been my biggest fear for over 20 years- and has been since well before I was diagnosed swith T2 over 9 years ago.

About 8 months before I was due to retireI ended up with chronic iritis in both eyes and spent most of that time semi blind and signed off work. It actually took the best part of ten years of excellent care and treatment (including cataract removal from my worst eye) from my local hospital eye clinic before I was finally deemed completely clear, although I stll need to use "dry eye" drops permanantly. Tnen I was diangosed with T2, but apart for a bit of backround retinopathy over the last couple of years my sight has been fairly stable if still somewhat blurry. Protecting my sight has been the biggest reason that I've stuck closely to my low carb diet for over 9 years now and able to keep glucose down to pre-diabetic levels.

So sorry that you're experiemc8ng this, I can totally understand the, living with this myself. It's not always that you've done anything wrong, please don't have yourself. My sugars are steady bit I was told after 28 years some complications are inevitable, sadly with me it was my eyes, treatments are good, keep faith and be patient on what is a long and slow road to recovery. Wishing you well x
