Test at home?

Hi, I was diagnosed with prediabetes some years ago. My doctor wondered about me getting a test meter but decided he would keep an eye on me. He has now retired and I don't have the confidence in my new gp as I had in the previous one. Should I get a meter and test myself at home? Do others with prediabetes test at home themselves? Thanks for advice.

Why not. You can prove to yourself how you are getting on and you can test after meals to find which foods give you spikes. You don't have to be obsessive about it but knowledge is better than being in the dark.

Yes, most of us test, and why wouldn't you when its your health?

I would test , if only to help you plan your way of eating, as the way you eat can have a great influence on your BG!
A slight change can move a slow upward BG drift into maintenance or even a drift downward. It may mean prevention of that move to diabetic or even a return to non-diabetic BGs:):)

Buy a machine and test at home, that way hopefully you will stay prediabetic. Test which foods agree with your BG levels most and enjoy your diet!

yes testing at home would be useful. I have type 1 and often worry before food my glucose levels are too high but often they're low, or vice versa.

Also, would anyone who is pre diabetic on here be interested in being part of my journalism video - based on the research with found a third of adults are pre diabetic in the UK. It would involve a short interview about when you became pre diabetic and how you have changed your life to avoid/attempt to avoid getting Type 2 diabetes. Any help would be greatly appreciated, please private message on here or email [email protected]
