Test meters advice (Suggestions)

Hi all,
My wife is a T2 and has been for a few years. She has started to feel drowsy every afternoon at around 3PM. I was wondering if anyone could advise on a not too expensive meter and strips so that we could check on her sugars at around this time we are both in our very late sixties and cannot really afford an all singing and dancing machine. We did try for one of the meters being offered free but she did not qualify as she was not testing already.
