Hi!
I've been diagnosed now for 2 months. Still getting used to it all and how things affect my glucose levels.
Had a prescription rejected today because they said I didn't need it. I have 100 strips on my repeat. I test the usual 7 times per day for new starters: before meals, after meals and bed time. But I also have to test when I hypo and afterwards. Sometimes I test at night too. They're saying I should only use 6 per day so I can't pick up more regularly than every 2 weeks!!! Some strips don't work and when I feel ill I test more.

Has anyone else experienced this? I don't want to test less or run out!

if you have any resistance get a referral to a consultant at the hospital diabetic unit (which is a good thing anyway) and they will get a letter to the Dr.
strips are like newly marrieds, the amount you use in the first year, will be enough for the next 3 years

You need to test more than 6 times a day and this is especially so for someone who is newly diagnosed. No doubt you'll be under the care of your hospital diabetes clinic so ask the Consultant or DSN to intervene and write to your gp and say that you need to test at least 8 times a day, I did this around 3 years ago when my gp questioned my test strip usage and I've not had any issues since.

Back in February of last year all gp surgery's were sent out letters advising them against restricting test strips for type 1's, you may want to print a copy off and remind your gp of it's contents:

Hi all.
Just want to say thanks for the advise. Saw my doctor after the DN wrote to them and they've put a note on my record to state not to restrict my strips. They asked for the name of the receptionist but I didn't write it down :-s

Thanks :)

It was the receptionist that rejected your prescription?
I would say what I think, but I'd be banned!
I'd....actually i don't know what I'd do, but , again, if I type it I'd be banned.
