I think I may have found a reason why seemingly innocent breakfasts have given me silly one hour spikes - and it all seems to be down to how soon I eat breakfast after getting up! (Not sure how accurate my readings are as I'm using the same batch of test sticks other members have reported as reading high).
Had a bit of time to play this morning so tested on getting up: 6.2
Drank a glass of water and showered and tested 1/2 hour later: 6.6
Had a mug of black tea and got dressed and tested after another 1/2 hour: 6.1
Had breakfast, yoghurt, bran, raspberries and 2 boiled eggs.
1 hour reading: 6.6
Yesterday I had a reading of 7 before breakfast and 9.2 one hour later!
I've think I've read previously that if levels are high or rising this can affect post meal readings even if no carbs are consumed.
I would normally eat breakfast before getting showered and dressed but think I will have to change the habit of a lifetime!
