Both meters can effectively be right due to the accuracy tolerance allowed in them. Saying that though the SD code free has a reputation for reading high from the posts I have seen. Out of the 2 I would prefer to believe the freestyle optium.
If you not already done so, register the optium on the Abbott Medisense web site where after registering you can order a free control test solution. With the Abbott test solution they send you 2 bottles a high and low solution so you can check how well the meter performs at 2 levels. Not sure is the SD code free control solutions are free, as I have not looked at their site. Each manufacture says the control solution is for their own systems only.
