Testing Before meals only?

I have just been diagnosed with gestational diabetes, which I also had in my last pregnancy. I am at a different hospital this time.

I spoke to the diabetes nurse (who was lovely!) on the phone for the first time today and have been asked to monitor my blood sugars four times a day. Fasting, before lunch, before dinner and before bed. No post meal readings at all. I didn't really get a chance to ask her why this was, but it is very different to my last pregnancy and I don't know anyone else with GD in other hospitals who have been asked to check blood sugar before meals like this.

Can anyone shed any light on it please?

I'm actually type 1 but on my 3rd pregnancy, first two babies I was told to test 1hour after meals, and this time I'm told to test before meals. Personally I prefer to check after meals, as that's when our blood sugar will be at its highest (unless its a High Fat high carb meal) are you diet control? If so I would test 1hour and try and keep to the 7.8 and below target. I test an awful lot being on insulin I go low alot and my readings are iffy a lot.
Take care

Thanks for replying.

I'm not anything at the moment really as I am only 9 weeks pregnant and was just diagnosed today. Last time I was diagnosed at 24 weeks and on insulin at 26 weeks as it was obvious I couldn't diet control. I was on quite a lot of insulin by the end, but managed to maintain good control.

I'm not sure how I can test after meals if they have asked me to test before? I feel worried about not testing afterwards, as how will I know what foods I can and can't tolerate or what I am eating is doing to my blood sugar? :?
