I have to avoid very low carb such as ketogenic and IF as I'm also hypothyroid (with fatty liver, high blood pressure and fibromyalgia - stress has wrecked me) and it plays havoc with my system.
Are you type 1 or 2?Hi all
I was diagnosed a couple of weeks ago and I've just bought a kit to check my bloods.
I've read on here that I need to check my bloods before eating and 2 hours after the first bite.
I just wondered, do people still snack or do you tend to settle into a three meal pattern on lower carb? If you do snack, do you test?
I have to avoid very low carb such as ketogenic and IF as I'm also hypothyroid (with fatty liver, high blood pressure and fibromyalgia - stress has wrecked me) and it plays havoc with my system. I'm hoping my urge to snack will diminish with better eating, I was just curious how people handle this?
It feels like such a lot to deal with. I'm after general advice about what I should be doing.
Are you type 1 or 2?
On any meds? If so which?
A lot of weight to lose?
Lasted hba1c result?
With any info on the above we can try to help more directly
It's fairly likely that all of those things would improve greatly with a keto diet.
Oops sorry Edit to add
Hi and welcome
As for snacks.. once you get your food right.. snacking becomes both unnecessary and not really a thing any more.
I'm just started on this quest too it's a minefield from what I have read so far there is no short answer. What seems to work for some people may not work for others. At the moment I am trying the fasting from evening meal till lunch time next day no snacks, approx 16 hours, for 3 days this week did it for 2 days last week but I'm having blood sugar spikes when I drink tea but I have lost a lb so far.
I am pre-diabetic with a high risk developing type 2 & 68 years old.
Good luck with your journey
Advice from Diabetes Nurses can be very variable in quality.. if they mention "Eatwell Guude" then you can possibly ignore most of what comes after! In case it matters, I'm 41.
I was told I'm diabetic 3 weeks ago but have had to wait for the nurse appointment to discuss. She's calling me today.
I would guess Type 2 as this hasn't been said explicitly but I've been told try diet first so no meds yet.
5st to lose to be normal bmi.
Tests that confirmed diagnosis: 56 then 55.
Thanks
Sounds like me. I was HbA1c 52 at diagnosis & then lost 5st in 6 months.
HbA1c then fell to 33.
You've got this, low carb is the secret . . . . shhhhh, don't tell anyone.
5st in 6 months is an amazing achievement! I'm on the low carb path and hoping for good results. Time to change.
Totally agreeRead up on high carb diets & high levels of circulating insulin.
It's a viscous cycle which many of us have been on for decades.
We've been flooding our bodies with a hormone which causes weight gain & inflamation.
It's only at the point of your body giving up that you discover the facts.
Weight loss may let your body recover some of it's lost insulin sensitivity.
The challenge then is to not to overindulge again & restart the cycle.
Best of luck on your journey back to good health.
