Testing strips. How accurate are they?

Hi folks,

I have query about the variances of different batches of testing strips. It seems that according to my current strips my levels have jumped by 1.5 points, from a average of 5.4 to 6.8 with no change in my diet. Do different batches of test strips have a accuracy variances?

I know these BS levels are reasonable, but as I stopped taking 1x 500mg Metformin per day about 1 month ago. Is this jump merely a result of control via diet only, and now I'm seeing a rise because the Metformin is finally clear of my system.

Any advice would be helpful

They can vary from strip to strip, not batch to batch. Strips from the same pot using the same blood sample can give different results

Home testing meters are only accurate to within 10%

so a reading of 5 could be out by .5 and a reading of 12 could be out by 1.2

But you are always in the right ballpark
 
As long as the pot is closed properly they should be ok for several months
