I have the freestyle optium neo which is a new machine to me and all the strips come in foils.., I was wondering if you are able to take them out of the foils and store them in a pot or do they have to stay in the foils prior to testing :)

I too use the Optimum Neo.
Initially, I was disappointed in the packaging of the test strips because it means extra waste.
But I have now got use to the foils and love that I can just put a strip and the meter in my wallet when I head out rather than taking a whole pot. I use the wrapper to rest the strip on when it is reading the blood and I can put a used strip back its wrapper to avoid getting blood on anything

For these reasons, I have never thought about decanting them into a pot.
Why would you want to?

The Optimum Neo also reads ketones. I have been advised to use the ketone strips direct from the wrappers because they degrade in some way when not wrapped.

I have done this in the past... I actually left some in a accuchek pot for over 6 months and then compared them to some from foil and the results were almost the same... Will never be exact due to margin of error in each strip

I would however not keep the in any pot other than a test strip pot

In the end I just left them in the foil as I found it easier

As a T2 I've used these foil covered strips with the reader for my Libre sensors, and have always kept both the blood and ketone strips in their foil as I've found them more convenient and portable than the pots of strips I have for my usual meter.
