Testing strips

My doctor keeps ranting about how important it is to test your blood but REFUSES to give me testing strips. Because I am on metformin he says I no longer need to have the strips and I need to go to the clinic every 3 months to be tested. I fail to see his point and who is going to pay for the time off I have to take? Surely the whole idea of test strips are to check your blood sugar even if on medication or not, how in the hell are you going to know if you are ok or on the verge of a hypo

Basically, just be glad he wants to test you every 3 months. That's better than most, otherwise you'll have to do like so many of us and buy strips. they're cheapest from the supplier and you need to remind them you are VAT exempt.

Hi there, are you wanting to test so that you can eliminate what are bad foods [for you] from your diet? If so try explaining this to your GP, sometimes they respond well to the fact that you are trying to help yourself. Most practices can provide an "out of hours" service for those who have jobs, pehaps your practice is one of these. My GP occasionally mutters about my testing, but usually caves in when I point out that by testing I have reduced my BS levels by a good deal, thereby lessening my chances of being even more of a "burden" financially  Good luck , but remember you can often buy strips on e-bay, just follow the advice I was given, and check for a use-by date, and try and use buy it now!
