Testing

I wondered if others test their bloods 1 and 2 hrs after food?

I have been reading about the peak of BG's and there are times it can be missed if left until testing at 2 hours.. and in fatc, there are certain foods known to peak at 3/4 hrs later!!

I don't intend to disprove anything what others believe on here but am wondering about this.

I know for me, if I eat something not tetsed for before, it is interesting that at times my Bg's is higher at 1 hour and then settles down after 2?

If that is the case (for me) I tend to try that food another time / day and re check because I believe it is the peak that I need to look out for...

Any thoughts?

To be honest I have generally only tested before meals. I find that, as you state, different foods absorb at different rates, giving varying results and testing after meals has little use in controlling my BS. I would never change my insulin levels based on post-meal tests.
I guess that post-meal tests would teach you how different foods are digested which may be of benefit to diabetics who are trying to understand the differing effects of foods containing sugars as opposed to carbs (ie. fruit juice compared to bread).

O maybe I should have mentioned that as a T2 I am not on any meds as well...

I have found thru testing pretty much everything that passes my lips was tested following diagnosis and due to that, I was able to identify the foods that shot my Bg's up...

To me, it is vital for lessening further complications further down the line even if I don't nessessarily find it is complicating anything at the moment...if that makes sense. :D

I can't comment on those using Insulin but I did think you had to have some knowledge of what foods do to your count? And wouldnt that only happen ifyou knew a before and after reading?

i test pre meal and before bed..

these are the only results my consultant and nurse are interested in
