Hi
I have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes and wish to prevent it getting worse. As I am not yet diabetic I don't get all the medical attention that people with diabetes get. I want to be able to monitor my blood sugars levels but not necessarily very often and have no idea which system is best. I also have the added problem that I sometimes pass out when needles are stuck into me, but I guess there is no way round this. Any guidance would be most welcome.
David

The Accu-Chek Fastclix lancet device completely hides the needles and is painless. That's the first thing that comes to mind that may help with your issues.

I use the Glucomen LX Plus system, which can measure blood glucose and ketone levels - it's super accurate and easy to use and records all of your readings so you can flick back through them which eliminates the possibility of you forgetting your readings.

I also use the glucoject dual plus lancing device which hides the needle entirely (the needle is about half a centimetre anyway) and you can set the dial to how deep you want to needle to go (1/2 for soft skin, 3 for normal and 4/5 for hard or calloused skin).

You can get everything I've mentioned on Amazon if you don't get it from your GP, including the sensor strips for testing.

Hope this helps

Hi @DavidE54 and welcome to the forum. Well done you for finding this forum and taking action to control your BS levels while you are pre-diabetic, to avoid getting into the diabetic range. I wish I had.
I am terrified of needles too, but I use the Accu Chek Mobile which has the Fastclix lancet device attached. It does work out more expensive than the meters with testing strips, but had good reviews on Amazon. They can be bought for £17 in ASDA or £20 online.
I have bought three, each one has 50 tests on the cassette. It is cheaper to buy a new meter than buying the test cassettes. Now that I have got used to doing the test pricks I will switch to a cheaper test meter when I have used up the tests, but will continue to use the Accu Chek lancets.
You don't see the needle, and hardly feel the prick. Once you have done it once or twice you realise it is ok.
