Thank You To My Pump

Hi folks, just wanted to say how brilliantly my pump and I have been coping with my dramatically different insulin requirements while I've been so poorly with a kidney infection. My sugars were through the roof to start with, but setting temporary basal rates of between 120% and 180% depending on the time of day (and in particular, a higher rate overnight) has really helped to get my levels steadier.

After my basal requirements had then reduced I was (and am still) finding that I need to take 25% more bolus insulin than normal.

My sugars have been absolutely top-notch, and I thank my fabulous pump for that, in conjunction with my Libre (which has been an utter Godsend).

On a more negative note I have lost half a stone (which I can ill-afford) because I feel incredibly queasy and am not eating as I should be. I feel extremely unwell, and more so after eating. I finished the antibiotics yesterday, and today my sugars are suddenly back in the teens again.....

So, it's back to juggling the temp basal - I'm SO GLAD to have the technology to keep my sugars on an even keel.

Love my pump!
:)

I would say it's also down to you using your pump correctly and getting the best out of it, so a very big pat on the back for you is in order :)
Hope you are feeling much better soon as well.

hey @Snapsy
sorry you are / have been feeling poorly :(

but it is so wonderful to hear that the little bit of kit that keeps us alive has been doing overtime shifts to keep things steady !!

wishing you all the best !!

Thats fantastic, and needless to say really but you wouldn't have able to achieve the results you have without the pump and made so much easier with your CGM.

All the work you have put into getting your basal rates right has without a doubt pointed your recovery into the right direction.

Love Your Pump

I would not have had any hope, in my long experience of MDI and without my Libre, of achieving anything like this. So pleased with this technology, and heartened that all the hard slog of basal testing (that was without the Libre for the first four months) is showing its mettle.

#LoveYourPump

@Snapsy. Hi. Have no knowledge of pumps but I'm so pleased that yours has proved to be so good.
You sound like you maybe on your way back after your illness, sounds like you've had and are still having a rough time of it.
Hope you can get the running shoes on sooner rather than later.
Half a stone lighter, Mo Farah better watch his back :):).
Seriously though get well soon

Thanks @therower !

Finished round two of antibiotics yesterday morning and since this afternoon I've been 14-plus with backache again. I think it's taking hold again. Had already arranged to take a 'has this cleared up yet?' specimen to the doc tomorrow but I think I know the answer.

No running for a bit. Gutted as was going to be making my 5k race debut on Monday. That so isn't happening!

Pump rate juggling is kicking in nicely so at least my sugars will be better.

@Snapsy. Tomorrow is another day, so fingers crossed and maybe news might be better than expected.
Either way stay positive and stay strong.

Hi @Snapsy - sorry you've not been well but fab to hear about your pump & libre helping. Take it easy & hope you're soon fighting fit & back to running.

I bet some of the high BG's are down to the antibiotics as much as your illness.

Just off antibiotics and antimicrobial myself and my BG's crept up a bit needing 2 corrections to get it into target.

I'm not looking for sympathy but i stood on a nail, and yes i felt it alright. The nurse also asked if i felt it whilst she was cleaning and dressing the wound, i thought that was a stupid question as i was bracing myself due to being very ticklish lol.
No antibiotics given despite telling her that i was diabetic but as i had a pump follow up appointment the following day i got to see the diabetic podiatrist who prescribed the meds.

Sorry for going off topic a bit.

Regards

Martin
