I'd just like to thank everyone for all the messages, advice and support I've had over the last week.
As with a lot of people I was fairly bewildered when first diagnosed but all the advice has been great. There is so much information on here, and most if not all from first hand experience.
After following the advice given over the last week and a half my BG levels are dropping steadily by testing to my meter and following a low carb diet. I'm even beginning to get some idea and level of control over what meals and in what portion sizes I can eat (although there are still high spikes with a few things as I continue my trial and errors!).
I was so worried that I wouldn't be able to eat the foods I typically loved such as rice, pasta and bread, but there are so many good alternatives out there and can't wait to try cauliflower rice and mash at some point!
As for the low carb diet - I can't agree more with Jack - the less you eat the less you crave them! The first few days/week is hard after lowering your carb intake and I was always hungry again a couple of hours after meals. However by not giving in and snacking your body learns to adjust and now rarely feel hungry in between meals. I even managed a gym session after work tonight before my evening meal for the first time in around 8 years - I just hope I'm not suffering too much for it tomorrow!
Thanks!
Steve
