Well, it is a very diffucult question... Some sciencetist had insulin about 10 years before Banting, but they've never tried to give it to human. Banting didn't know about this research and discovered insulin wiht Best, but it wasn't so pure and had toxic side-effect. J. B. Collip (the person being beaten in this picture) purified insulin and made it safe for people. When Collip said that he purified the extract Banting and Best asked him "How did you do it?" Collip replied "I have desided not to tell you". Then Banting tried to throttle him. When I first saw the use of the name Banting as a synonym for diet, I was very surprised. Why do you use the name of the person who allowed diabetics to eat as many carbohydrates as they want as a synonym for a low-carb diet? And then I found out that it wasn't about Frederick, but about WilliamWow - I didn't! I was wondering about that just now! Cool!
