ive been a diabetic for 4 years
and i would like to know is there any thing straight forward about diabetes ,
seem not when your told the your got it its down hill all the way well it seem that way to me
lose weight dont let your sugar level go past 10 check the saturated fats in every 100 grams
if you dont keep a check on it you will loose your sight , you can have a stroke /a heart attack . look after your feet over wise you could loose your limbs your kidneys could fail , doesnt it feel you with joy lol
what does annoy me is before i got told on my 50th birthday theres a gift you dont want
i ask them to check me out to see if i had it as my mum was a diabetic and before i got it my sister was told to but it seems that was to much trouble and been over weight all my life you would think there mention it well before that day
now it seems theres a injection that can help with weight lose and sugar control but theres a catch
i cant have it if i have problems with my stomach well its a catch 22 then as the side affects to the meds im taking is that it causes that very thing its stop the meds and have the injection or for go the injection, like i said at the start why cant it be straight forward lol

Oh Dear
Many people have found that the improvement in their eating and exercise has been helpful and although they'd prefer it without the diabetes, they feel better than ever.
I think the injection you are referring to is Byetta, which you can look up on this forum. It's not for everyone, but most of those who go on it find it effective.
It doesn't have to be "all downhill" It is possible to be healthy and fit with diabetes. Look through the success stories threads and see how some people have managed.

PS stop worrying about saturated fats, they won't hurt you.

We can all relate to how you must feel at the moment, your right nothing is straight forward about diabetes, except the certainty that unless you try your best to control your blood sugars and weight, there is a chance that your condition can worsen and complications can occur.

That said, it is never to late to change. Ask your doctor to be refered to a dietician and discuss a diet plan for you that will aid weight lose. There is information on this forum about diets, reduced/low carbs, low-gi/gl, and discussions about portion control and exercise being of benefit in reducing blood glucose and weight lose. A lot of it is common sense though, try avoiding fast-foods/processed foods and try making meals healthy by making your own, using fresh ingredients. I have lost 18 pounds in the last 6 months by reducing carbs, portion size and eating low gi foods, on top of this I have cut back on my fat intake, and only eat cheese/bacon once a week.

Nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it!
