The junk we eat.

Was playing back ground music at a function this lunch time and the organisers very kindly suggested we take a break and go visit the buffet......and that's pretty much all I did. Visit.

Sandwiches, pasties, pastries of all descriptions. Things wrapped in filo pastry, things coated in breadcrumbs. It all looked beautiful but there wasn't one single thing there I could eat.

People of all shapes and sizes, filling their plates and washing it all down with alcohol. I'd never really noticed before. This was a pretty high brow gig. There was nothing there that came "3 packs for £5". If this is considered good food , it's no wonder obesity is at the level it is.

- thinking back, I went on a four day course last summer, as staff. I didn't eat with the group once. - I wasn't diabetic then but I couldn't eat gluten. Everything was either wrapped in bread, bread crumbs or pastry. Most meals were buffet style, so I do mean everything! I ended up eating at the campus theatre coffee shop. - the staff very kindly phoned the supplier and made sure that, as well as panini and baguettes, sushi was delivered every day, which they kept for me.

There isn't really a point to this thread. - unless people want to share their experiences of "catering"??

PS, I'd had an early lunch, so I didn't starve.

Unfortunately for the majority, it's convenience that counts. I hate the term "finger food" as it usually means sweaty sandwiches or little cold sausages on a cocktail stick lol !

I agree it's funny how it's all the same at buffets, I held a 30th party for my fiance last year and I did something different, instead of the normal pastries I ended up doing pizzas, jellies, sandwiches (typical), chicken wings/legs/jacket potatoes and the usual salad. Then again though i'm also a coeliac so I made my own little table of food so that I could eat something for once.

It is crazy how junk food has taken a hold of the world. I mean I don't lie, it's really nice and addictive but that's the issue. It's so addictive. I have quite a clean diet eating a lot of chicken, fruit and veg so when I get to have something fatty or typically junkish, I always want more at thie time but the next day I feel rotten. I don't think I could trade my healthy diet to go back to burgers and chips every night though. I make such random meals now with the veg and meats, I love it.

i love trying to find new ways to eat well
i love driving passed mcdonalds and just tutting at the cars queueing in the drive thru lane
i love cooking my own stuff
