Hi i don;t know if any one can help me and I appologise if im posting this in the wrong section anyway what im wondering is as a diabetic do i have any rights at work. I find that if i have my dinner break to early i will hypo so i request the last break witch the management seem to let me do (i work 12 hour shifts) but some of the people think that i say this just to get the brake i want but the truth of it is it is the one that works for me one man last block said that if i was,nt able to have what break i was told to have i should,nt work on the shop floor.i did,nt get in to an argument with him as i belive evry one is intitled to their own oppinion whether I aggree with them or not it makes it worse because the number of injections i have a day is 4 what do you think :? :? :?

im the other way around i have found that if i dont get my lunch before 1pm i start to feel sick and get the shakes and when i test i mostly get 4-4.3 i no this is not a hypo but i feel very ill at that no but work always send me for my lunch last sometime as late as 1.50 pm i try to eat my breackfast as late as possable before i go to work but by 1 pm i still feel really ill . i have spoken to both my supperviser and personal i then get my lunch between 12-12.30 then the following week back to 1.50 most day :evil:
 
Thanks Sarah im on humulin s in the day and humulin I at night but have to swap them around wheh im on nights

Hi Marz Barr,

The disability and discrimination act states that a employer must make reasonable adjustments to your workplace. I would think your request to have a later break would come under the "reasonable Adjustments" banner and therefore this should not be a problem. You need to seek advice, or check out the the DDA.
 
Bobbykins is absolutely correct. Diabetes comes within the Disability Discrimination Act. Failure by your employer to make reasonable adjustments to allow you to manage your diabetes is against the law and could make them liable to a claim for a breach of the Act. Make sure you tell your employer this and if necessary refer them to the requirements.
