The mmol of non-diabetics

Recently, I have been stressing about spikes after eating. My mum tried to comfort me and said that even non diabetics spike. She referred to her friend who is non diabetic who tests her blood sugars regularly as diabetes runs in her family. This friend said that she is regularly in the 7mmol mark after eating and after fish and chips she went up to 11. She is definitely a non diabetic and the doctor is happy with this as normal.

So then my mum had a sugary drink and I tested her, 7.7. Tested boyfriend too and he was 6.7. Both non diabetics.

So my question is, what is normal? Does everyone go up and down and if so is there any research into non diabetics' blood sugars on a large scale?

Thanks in advance!

Yes all non diabetics have glucose spikes, the difference is that their bodies deal with it for them. My partner (non diabetic) tests his blood sugars on occasion with my machine and the highest he has ever recorded was 12.2. (After Lucozade). Within half an hour his body had him at 5.4, then within an hour 4.2.

So yes everybody spikes, but in non diabetics, their bodies start working to return their levels to a safe range immediately upon the body recognising that sugar/carbs have been consumed. With us, we have to take insulin.

You might like to look at a none diabetics data. This chap has a type 1 child but is temporarily wearing a Dexcom himself.
The Data is on a NightScout web page which he has made temporarily available so it is "Live" data.

N.B. It's in mg/dl - divide by 18 to get the rough equivalent in mmol/L
