The weather

Hi Nicolab .
In this cold weather , it will make the extremities nerve endings constrict and expand greatly
due to the extremes and opposites of temperatures.
From the freezing cold outdoors to the rapid warmth indoors of the home with
fires,central heating on etc...

Its the constricting and expanding of the extremeties that get the worst of it.
Hands and feet :(

This is how and why it makes arthritis worsen [joints/bones are affected by the temperature being
so much colder and neuropathy worsens in the winter.]

Are you being monitored for this under a podiatry - footcare clinic ?
You are entitled to a yearly foot screen as part of your diabetes care .

100% wool socks are unsuitable for myself - they make my feet itch and burn !

Have you tried any diabetic thermal insulateing socks ?
They can be a bit pricey but I find it 'IS' worth the extra expense.
I have a thermal grade 1 [lightest thermal grade] and a grade 3 pair .
Indoors I wear the grade 1's - outdoors I wear the grade 3's.
Bit of swapping about but it works for me

Always wear slippers indoors and good footwear outdoors .

If the pain is worsened I would suggest to see your GP and ask them to look at
some type of pain management plan for you.
There is nothing worse than really painful feet and it can impact on a persons mobility.

Hope this helps - as it is awful when the cold affects the extremeties.

Anna.
