Is following "Tracking" your online presence acceptable?

Lots of us are aware wherever we go on the internet we're followed by so called "Trackers".

Here's a sample of blocked trackers I discovered
over a few days, with a *gap between the dates.

It's certainly very correct to say "well if you're not doing anything illegal, you
have nothing to worry about". Now that's very true and I agree with it but, if
you're like me who find it rather irritating to know I'm being followed around
the net without prior consent, well........ the choice to stop the intrusion
(there's no other word for it) or not, is available to everyone, for free even.

Remember, trackers are not following us for fun, they're making money out of it, lots of money, by way of
adverts and from passing on personal information about you and me to other companies if they so wish.

The choice to stop it or not?....... Well, over to you.

It seems to be the job of commerce to make sure that Joe Public spends all of his wages every week/month and in too many cases more than his/her wages. The competition for a percentage is great. It can involve the Telly, phone calls at home and now tracking. Other forms of selling are available.

I support whatever will make them worse at it and so I voted that it is unacceptable.

I don't like being tracked. Mozilla has a couple of good free add-ons (or do I mean plug-ins?), DoNotTrackMe and AdBlock Plus. I have also used Start Page and Duck Duck Go as my search engines since I realised how very many info-harvesting sites Google was directing my searches through.

I wouldn't be paranoid if they weren't tracking me!

It really doesn't bother me, since none of the info gathered about me can be used against me. More often than not, it actually helps since I see more of the things that are actually relevant to me. I've got nothing to hide, so track away

I feel much the same as you..........

A lot of free website and services are powered by advertising, and as you say, rather relevant product/services being advertised........

Who is it that actually track you anyway..........?

I was aware some email providers [gmail] may scan your emails etc so as to target your interests etc......

Is there any literature someone could link....?

Hi Giverny, I rather hope that applies to most web users.

As I mentioned in the first post.....I totally agree If we're not doing anything illegal, we have nothing to
worry about.

Taking it a ridiculous step further, visualize how we would feel if we were randomly chosen without
prior consent and followed by some survey team or whatever who want to physically survey and
track our shopping habits and which shops we like to use.

It's not the tracking per say that kind of goes against the grain as far as I'm concerned, it's the
fact that trackers follow us without prior consent that bothers me.

It's starting to pick up a little now as you can see, Squire Fulwood, It'll be very interesting to note the eventual outcome.

The idea drives me mad, i hate that they can do this, its disgraceful,i don't do anything dodgy online but its not the point, its an absolute disgrace imho, no need to say which way i voted lol

edit: im so sceptical now, id be afraid to download the blocker thing in case it had trackers of its own lol
 
I can't remember why now but I downloaded and used the Opera browser many months ago. After a recent crash I downloaded the latest version. Not only can you request not to be tracked but it has a private window feature. When you use the private window it erases all trace of what you were looking at upon exit.

You understand that I didn't want to look at those things, they made me do it.
 
If you accidentally enter details on to a application form then send.,the damages is done when tracked.
I do not claim to be perfect and do make a lot of mistakes.
My point is recently I was diagnosed with mild dyslexia, although I have had this for many years, ( god is now not the only one that knows what **** ups I have made and use them for whatever. )
 
You can also do this in newer builds of Internet Explorer
