I've never understood why you get thirsty when you have a high blood sugar level? :|

Usually when your blood sugars are high, you pass more urine which dehydrates you causing you to feel thirsty.

You are thirsty because the insulin carrying the sugars is being refused by your cells and your body is trying to get rid of it as fast as possible. That means you want to drink lots and lots of liquid in order to get as much of the sugars into your urine as possible.
