I've often seen it advised to 'drink lots of water' when on a low carb diet.
Often people get 'carb flu' when they start, and that can partly be due to dehydration, but we should continue to drink lots even after our bodies adjust.
I think it is a combination of things, in my case
- I'm not holding so much fluid retention, so fewer 'reserves' to draw on
- when I drink, it passes through quicker and more easily, so afterwards, I need another cuppa
- my meat intake has increased a little, so the kidneys like to dilute the urea (result of protein breakdown) more, so uses more liquid. Ever noticed how dark your wee gets after a high protein meal?
- salt intake can change a lot when we switch to low carb
There may be others!
None of those are bad, they just mean our bodies have switched to a slightly different way of working.
For me, an extra few glasses of water are a small price to pay.
