Hi @dvd , 3.4 seems low,

I would ask did you retest, say wash your hands and just check again.

I think some people would feel very shaky & possible weak, if they were that low if your feeling ok then I wouldn't be worrying too much but maybe some others here on the forum have got other suggestions.

The other numbers seem fine, but try testing on the 1hr for a few meals and see what the numbers are then.

What are you eating if your are eating a lot of fat with any amount of carbs then that could be prolonging any spikes, or having alcohol say wine with your meals that would be delaying any spikes also so you may then need to test at 3hrs & 4hrs to get a true picture

I often see 3s, and sometimes quite low 3s, and the odd reading in the 2s. Down to the very low 3s, I tend to feel absolutely fine. Below that I tend to want to clear the fridge, but to be honest with you, those will be fasting or pre-meal readings, so getting on an eating is usually what's on plan anyway. Your other numbers look just fine.

Provided your profile is up to date, and you are on diet only; provided you feel fine, in the 3s, just carry on as normal. If you feel at all rough, then do something about it. By that I mean, if your meal is ready to eat, get on with it and enjoy it, but try not to wolf it down or your bloods will be better, but you'll probably have indigestion! If a meal isn't ready, then have something modest to eat or drink. Personally, I tend to have a cup of tea, with milk, and that just brings me up off "the bottom" until I can eat. For those of us still producing insulin naturally (and I would speculate you are, by virtue of the other decent scores you reported), we don't need a big carb hit to bring our bloods up. If we take a big carb hot, however, we can find ourselves shooting up, stimulating more insulin, and it is possible to end up on an uncomfortable carb-fuelled roller coaster.

But, please don't be scared of a number, when it is just a number. Keep accurate records, as they'll be what will show any trends we like or dislike.

It's finally worth remembering that our meters have a +/-15% allowable accuracy tolerance, so any number can be up to 15% higher or lower than a hospital test might show up.

Good, eh?

@dvd Checking your age and profile .
As daddys1 says the 3.4 is a lower BG scene .

Test and retest with clean dry washed hands .
If symptom free at this range or lower ?
Without any sweats , shakes , fuzzy head or slurred speech .
Keep eye on yourself and certainly retest .
If any symptoms are evident then you will need to eat to raise your BG level .

Some members are fine at the lower BG range without any symptoms .
Others are not and could be entering hypo scene .
Especially those on certain meds and insulin .

I wouldn't be okay at this 3.4 range or scene - I would be certainly in hypo mode .
Needing to treat it accordingly .

Please retest if ever you are unsure and keep safe .

Did you ask your nurse why she was advising higher levels?

Since you are type 2 and not on any medication (from your profile), hypos shouldn't be a worry - unless you ever have signs of hypoglycaemia?

Do you?

If you don't, then I think your nurse is talking tosh.

Diabetes is a disease of high blood glucose. Not low.

Hi.. no i didnt ask as this is all very new to me but what i had read on here i thought that she was a bit off the wall !! She also said to eat my carbs and fruit ..which i am not doing!! Cutting down on those for sure ..also frowned at self testing ..will carry on as i am doing with help from here .. dont see her for 3 months ..by that time i hope to be within non diabetic range ..todays readings were .. fasting 5.7 post breakfast 6.8, pre Dinner tonight 4.8, post Dinner x 2hrs 6.0 .. dont test at lunch time yet ... thks for your reply, i do appreciate it . .j

Unless you see a recurring pattern of very low readings, I should just dismiss it as a one-off.
We all get them ;)
