I am looking at the new posts page.
As far as I can see the New Posts and Recent Posts pages are alternate names for the same thing.
I think they are similar, but the Recent Posts are all threads with a recent posting on it, whether you have seen the lat post or not. Any last posts you have seen are in a different colour. New Posts are recent threads where the last post is one you haven't seen. If you have seen it, it won't show.

Someone asks a question - I answer it - I look back at Recent/New posts a while later to see the reaction to my answer - there is no sign of the thread although there are new posts more recent in time - some while later the thread reappears.
It doesn't always happen.

If you particularly want to keep an eye on a particular thread, where, say, something of particular interest is going on, you can "Watch" the thread, and then alerts will show or you can set the system to receive emails (on a thread, by thread basis). The Watch option is at the upper part of the page, towards the right hand side.
