I went to see the nurse today for my review and blood test results. I had my cholesterol stats back yesterday. Down from 5.5 total. No break down sorry. Now it`s,

Trig 1.3
HDL 1.9
LDL 2.2
Total 4.7

I have lost 2 stone 4 since diagnosis in March. My blood pressure is well within normal, slightly higher today because I was excited. The all important hba1c was 5.9

I was told I could stop all medication, but I decided to keep one metformin a day for now. There was talk of changing my diabetic status, but it stays as it is. The view was my lifestyle changes may not continue, and I am happy to accept that with my yo yoing past.

I return in three months for another load of blood tests and to see where we go from there. The nurse was so pleased for me, and with me. The other nurse even came in to congratulate me. So it is official. I am cured

Well done Jeannemum, great result! Mind you, they really don't understand do they, when they talk about "changing your status". You want to shout "My status hasn't changed, my life style and diet has!"
But congrats again

5.9 is excellent, well done you

Thanks everyone. Now to get rid of the other three stone and keep going to the gym three times a week. Heck

Too right!! Well done indeed!! Why doctors don't seem to be able to differenciate between 'In control' and 'Cured' is a real mystery to me also, but hey ho,give it time,Rome wasn't built in a day and all that.. 8)

I have every confidence you'll get there!

which gives you a ratio of HDL/total of 2.47 (or 40%)*
and a ratio of triglycerides/ HDL of 0.68 (it should be 2.0 or lower - you're well lower !)

Both of these are excellent
* per exrx.net 20%is average risk, and 33% is half average risk. You're 40% !
Well done !!

Geoff

Well done! You've done really well

They told me these results were very good, but I didn`t realise how good till you explained it. Thanks! This is on a low carb high fat diet as well

Thank you everyone for your praises. All very gratefully received xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi. well done. It sounds like you are an insulin-resistant T2 and with a low-carb diet and the resulting weight loss you can expect an improved Hba1C and whilst not 'cured' you may continue to have a good Hba1c with the good diet.

I was waiting for you Mary. Now we are both cured

Thank you everyone. I am very pleased with the result. I won`t lie, I have had many many things that were not low carb, in fact they were high, but obviously I have found a nice medium. I am hoping to lower my hba1c a little more by my next test. I will have to be a bit more careful with the treats to see my weight fall more, which will obviously help with my overall health.

One thing that is slipping a little is my thyroid results. They had improved great deal, and my level of tsh had fallen to 8, still a bit high, but not bad. Now it has risen to 24. Normal is around 0.5 to 5. My doctor is useless at rising my thyroxin, and usually it takes a letter from my rheumatologist to get him to do it. When that is right everything is so much easier.

Crikey. I don`t half go on!

Jeannemum

You have done so well - I am rather jealous!!

I am just wondering how low in carbs you have gone?
