Three months since been told Type 1.

I feel your pain, I was diagnosed in Reading whilst on a placement year, now home in Exeter for Summer, then will be in Cardiff as of September for my last year of uni. Nightmare!
 


Think of it this way, it's whole new bunch of NHS personnel to train and pass your wisdom on to.....!

Just out of interest, do you get good support from on-campus doctors/medics?

Only allowed 170grams of carbs a day at mo
Hence why it's total bollo@
But fam don't know I have a stash of the best choco bars

Hi. Can you tell us a bit more about your weight? It looks like you are on the Basal/Bolus regime. You will be more in control if you can start carb counting for meals. Do ask your DN to guide you. This will enable you to be in more control of what you eat and when. The 170gm number is not a bad target. At first it is difficult to wean yourself off carbs but it does become easier; we've all been thru it. You can have proteins, fats, veg and so on; juust avoid the rubbishy carbs.

170g of carbs a day for adult male is very low
U should be in taking about 200-250 a day to balance the body's need for a daily basis
Far as I can see on the 170 or less is starvation

Looks like they have you on a 1:10 ratio, meaning for every 10g of carbs you eat you inject 1 unit of insulin.......hence why they are suggesting to keep to 170g of carbs a day for now.

Once you more confident at carb counting and adjusting your own insulin doses you can then vary what you eat rather than being on fixed doses.
 
An is it normal that ur in this for near six months ... As been told won't do daf till oct

So just a bit pants if have to be on that for six months
 
Not sure if things have changed since I did the DAFNE course, but back then they wanted people to be out of their Honeymoon Period and wouldn't enroll anyone unless they'd been diagnosed for 6 months at the very least, when someone is in the Honeymoon Period they are still producing some insulin of their own which makes it difficult to pinpoint an accurate insulin-to-carb ratio.

I can't imagine things have changed so the answer is Yes.

I was DKA and kinda of chart
So .... What has happend
I was booked for DAFNE on
20 July for 5 day at my last hospital
But as I moved I now have to wait again till oct as said
So Yer bit of a mess
 
Expect if you've moved hospital then you would have to enroll on their course, probably October is the earliest time that they can get you on the course, some hospitals the waiting times can be 12 months plus.

I haven't actually had any care at uni yet, I will definitely let you know once I get back in September though! I can say that I did receive great care from my occupational health nurse at work though for the last few months
