Three Weeks in.....and...

....After three weeks on a low carb (50g per day or less) I have lost zero weight. Not an ounce, nihilum, intet, ingenting, nishto, nichts, ei mitään, semmi, nitchevo, nic, neniom, null, niente, néant...........disappointed doesn't even come into it. :(

I know this is probably my hypothyroidism, but I have no idea what else I can do. My GP won't increase the dose of thyroxine even though I'm only on 75mg. She says my body should be behaving as normal even though I still have a lot of the initial symptoms that have never got better.

I'm still going to stick with the low carbing to give MH support in his diabetes, but any suggestions would be appreciated?

What were your last thyroid results Julia? At one point my dr wanted to leave mine at the same dosage with a 16 reading. I was still sleeping 14+ hours a day. I recently had lots of extra tests when I visited my Rheumatologist, and they sent a letter to him saying I was undermedicated. He seems to have pulled his socks up since then

I have lost 8lbs in 3 weeks, but I am low carbing at 20gs or less a day. It is hard work with a wonky thyroid

Gosh...20g? What are you eating, tell me quick, I need ideas.....this is seriously depressing right now.

I haven't got my last results as the doc wouldn't print them, but I'm not leaving without them when I go for the latest results next week. I've taken it upon myself to up my dosage by 25mg, and it'll be interesting to see what the doctor says. I do wish doctors would take thyroid problems seriously - they are just as dangerous as diabetes if left untreated. I so wish I could get referred to an Endo.

They are very reluctant to treat hypothyroid properly. I can't get treatment at all evn though my TSH puts me well into the zone where I'd be treated in any other country.. There's even an article in a recent "Lancet" which talks about too little being done for thyroid disease. It's common in women of a certain age and especially those with T2d.
Just keep fighting!

I am just doing Viv`s modified Atkins Julia. Meat or fish, and loads of salad with full fat mayo and cheese. Some days I can be as low as 8gs if I deduct the fibre like you are meant too. Why not join me and Defren at http://www.myfitnesspal.com/ You can see what we are eating if you become our friend on there. It also adds up all your calories and carbs etc. It makes my life much easier.

As for the Levothyroxin and thyroid, it is very dangerous. It is another condition that can eliminate the cost of prescriptions. Try ringing the surgery, and ask the receptionist to read your results. Mine tell me mine x

I think that is disgusting Hana. Especially as you have had a stroke. An under medicated thyroid can damage your heart. It makes me despair, it really does.
