My thyroid was completely removed last week and I already feel much better.

The operation for me was more uncomfortable than painful. One night stay in hospital was all it took. I was eating within 2 hours of the op and talked to the porters when I awoke of from the anaesthetic. Whilst in hospital I administered my own Diabetes treatment. Also removed my dressing myself to se a quick mend to the incision of about 4inches long. The thyroid was quite a size although not obvious externally.

Yesterday I went for a walk of about 2-3 miles which is something I have been unable to do for 9 months. I hope that the thyroid problem that was under laying my diabetes has been total removed and give me a more energy and enthusiasm to keep the improvements coming.

I hope my experience offer some comfort to anyone that may have similar thyroid problems.

BobCee, congratulations and the hospital for this delicate work. I am not sure if you had hypothyroidism, as you describe lethargy. Was your thyroid condition related to diabetes? And I suppose you must be taking a thyroid hormone now. I've always been amazed by endocrinologists.to

When the Thyroid problem was first discovered when I was diagnosed as having a mini stoke. Which proved not to be a stroke. I had a serious allergic reaction to the stoke medicine which caused me to have a TIA whist attending the hospital an Ultra scan to determine the condition of the thyroid. Consequently I end up in neurology when the decided that is was not a stoke I had had after 2 weeks in hospital I appeared to make a recovery and was discharged after they had done many different tests with no positive results. The only thing that was left was the thyroid that had a question mark over it, I returned home and 2-3 weeks later become very ill again. After about 10 week I started to recover again and started attending ENT. The thyroid was found to be hyper active,The ENT doctors gave me Gabimazole in a dosage the worried my GP and pharmacist. Whilst taking the Gabimazole I seam to improve. I then under took many different scans as well as an aerated needle biopsies. The scans etc did not show any positive or negative results but made the doctors decide to remove the thyroid because of un certainty. I was originally reluctant to under go the op wanting the Radio active Iodine treatment but after the doctors said the thyroid was too big and would not react well to radio active treatment and would probably either turn cancerous or slowly throttle me. That left me with little choice and decide to have the op. After 1-2 weeks of discomfort after the op and the slowly disappearing incision, I now feel better that I have for 9 months and definitely much better than before the onset(diagnosed) of the diabetes. Taking 125 msg Thyroxine daily at the moment it has still be regulated.
