Time off work

Still not sure what that is? R u in the UK?
I guess we can't help answer ur question unless we know why u r off work

When a GP signs you off it normally means your fit for work in the uk

Lol I'm still confused, sorry having a thick day!

So the GP gave u the sick note and said u're not fit to work?

I'd ask the GP why to be honest. If u feel u r fit to work there doesn't seem to be any reason u shouldn't. I was in hospital 3 days when diagnosed T1 then straight back to work whilst figuring out insulin the next day. I'd ask him why and say u really want to go back

Seems bizarre to me. Metformin doesn't agree with some, try Metformin SR. If your levels are now much better get on back to work, I have also had 2 knee surgeries in recent years and worked around them using VPN connections etc.

I've never been signed off work, despite being very ill on medication. I suppose it depends what type of job you do

A debt collector. Lol . So my stress levels are sometimes through the roof!!! Especially at this time of year! Lol

Suggs 108 being stressed does not help your BG levels. Believe me, they will send them through the roof. As mentioned try the slow release metformin if you are having stomach problems. I have also heard that different brands of the drug affect people in different ways. May be worth looking into. My problem with Metformin is it binds me up shocking. Missed my dose this morning and now I know about it.

Yes, very stressful job. Stress can affect your bg dramatically, as bluejeans says. I think that is what tipped me over the edge originally. I was on Metformin sr , but this made no difference for me, though I'm not saying you shouldn't give it a go. My Consultant asked me if I would go back on it, but i couldn't face the horrible side effects again :-(

Apart from In-Patient hospital care and post recovery time which is stressful physiologically and emotionally people forget that any stressors affect BGs, BP readings and put a lot of strain on your body. If it is so overwhelming that it is causing genuine physical or mental problems then maybe time off is the only option. I had perfect health right up to my forties and was surprised how much I took it for granted.Take care Suggs

Hi @eddie1968, I have spoken to many peeps about that very issue (ie reaching 40); most seem to agree that is when they notice significant health changes - downhill all the way once you hit 40! :-(

Yeah. Was a shock, my bowel problems were always fobbed off as IBS until I developed peritonitis (very painful, wish you were dead) and they found an abscess the size of tennis ball. It ruptured before A&E, the pain went away and I developed septicemia and a temp of 39.3 C and got delirious. After surgery they told me I had a very bad case of diverticular disease and they removed so much I only have 60cm of colon left. No option to take time off.

Wow !. I had one of those abscess thingy things in my neck. Tennis ball size. Popped up in around three hours. Caused by blood cancer. Not nice is it !. That's why I'm on insulin. They pumped steroids and so many other drugs to sort it out and keep me alive, my pancreas gave up and went south. This all started on boxing day 2013. Still of work. As you say. No opinion.

You getting or feeling better Nuthead ? Just curious to know.

Yes. Chemotherapy was the problem but also the lifesaver. My doctor reckons another six weeks at least before I can think of going back to work. I had the last chemotherapy bit in August. I have a review with cancer consultant on Wednesday. So fingers crossed. Feel a lot stronger but no staying power so to speak. I can and do sleep all day sometimes.

Good stuff Nuthead, hope you get the all clear and get back to work. Take care and night to you and the missus.
