I think I’ve decided it’s time to move on.
I’ve had my latest HbA1c result today, 5.4 yet again, after reducing to minimal metformin.
That’s also eating my choice of food over Christmas, and New Year, with the only restraint being on the portion size.
Improved self control, and the new found ability to put food down seems to have worked for me.
So, am I still diabetic?
To be honest, I don’t really know either way, so long as my results keep coming back as ‘normal’, I’m more than happy to stay under the care of my team, and keep being monitored, so in that sense I intend to stay ‘diabetic’.
They are considering stopping all my meds, so maybe I won’t have a choice, we’ll see on that.
So, I’m going to take a rest from diabetes, both as the disease, and as the obsessions that could so easily replace it it you let it.
Early retirement, holidays, diving, travel, will fit in nicely with picking up any food on the road as I go.
Who knows, rice in india, pasta and pizza in Italy, paella in Spain, baguettes in France, it seems a lot easier if I don’t need to impose restrictions, apart from putting it down again.
I’m happy with my spot BG up and down within a normal range as well, I know what drives my BG up, but equally, I know how to keep it down, so that’ll certainly increase what I can eat.
My fasting level is also predictable, but it’s still a good check, if anything changes, I’ll see it, so maybe I will keep that up but maybe weekly.
But for the moment, diabetes is on the backburner.
