I am T2 on met and insulin. My readings are always highish, sometimes in the teens. Do I need more insulin? I also take thyroxine for my underactive thyroid and that is well monitored by the nurse. I am contimually tired, wanting to lie down wherever I am, and often have a nap in the afternoon. How do I get more energy, just enough to make life interesting again, not just sitting around?

It is hard, my thyroid is so under active and it just adds to my tiredness...
I try and set goals for myself though and use my mobile alarm during the day so I limit my sleep when possible , I do have chronic fatigue and the engery just is not there...
Not many people really understand the tiredness and weakness you feel, it may or may not be related to your blood sugar levels, I am sorry I can't help, there, just sharing the fact that a routine can help and of course give yourself permission to,sleep but limit the time .......
For me it is about managing the problem ....
I to would love a solution but I am not sure that there is one ...
You have my full support though.....

( for me it is low iron and b12 as well ) .......there is always a list

So kind, thanks for your reply. If you met me in the street, you would think I was the picture of health! I hope your life improves and you pick up a bit - its not too much to ask, is it?

( I know what you are saying about the picture of health ! And I wear bright red lipstick as well, so people never really know what goes on ! )

I can tell you what I do.

I self medicate with NDT instead of Levo. Levo did nothing for me but with NDT I am well. And I keep my bg normal through LCHF.

When some of the symptoms of hypothyroidism started to creep back I couldn't understand how this could happen. It was diabetes though, terrible tiredness, lousy memory, pins and needles and cramps, difficulties to get going. Day of diagnosis I went on a strict low carb diet, kept the same amount of protein but upped my fat intake. Week after diagnosis I got a bg monitor and strips and have been testing to see what I can eat and still have normal, and I mean normal normal bg. It works very well. No bread, no pasta, no potatoes, no rice, a lot cheese, butter, olive oil and vegetables. I have lost some weight in these almost three months, not a lot but I don't need to loose much and I have the same level of energy I at twenty-five so long as I stay off carbs and keep my bg normal, preferably below 7.

So my advice is to go low carb and up the fat intake to control bg and possibly discuss other options in thyroid meds with your Dr.

Thank you totto, glad you found a diet that worked for you ....it is not what I follow though, we are all different ....

You might want to give it a try. Who knows, it just might be what is needed to get your energy level up as it did for me.

Hi totto, thanks again , but the picture is much bigger and not so simple with medical,issues.....I will continue as I am . Plodding along , ok for me
I wont be changing my medication for thyroid , for example the dose has to be right ....it can cause strokes, which would not be nice...everything need a bit of fine tuning to keep health balanced , and I will only take and discuss those issues with medical staff who I do trust.....
I like my balanced diet , a veggie one and it works for me .....best wishes ....Kat

Tiredness if not due to a physical reason like thyroid can be state of mind...

My hint... When feeling too tired to get off bum..... Do it, even when watching tv... Dont use the remote.. Get off bum n change channel using the tv.

I am exhausted each morning, too tired to open my eyes to look out of window toneven see whether it sunny or rainining. I hate waking up......i could sit on bum all day, but don't...

I know I have to push myself physically everyday....but put my mind over matter hat on each mirning and do a little more than I think possible each day.....nobody except hubby knows how exhausted I feel...but I have to do more than I think poss.....i ama gardener, I love my work and customers but if I could sit on bum I would...

Finding and having something everyday that you love doing helps so much

Hi Totto, what is NDF and LCHF?
NDT is natural dessicated thyroid. This was used before the synthetic hormones and those of us who get to try them often do much better on NDT than on Levo. It has been around for a very long time and can prescribed on a named-patient basis. Unfortunately few Drs have much knowledge about NDT and are afraid to do this. Most Drs seem to treat bloods, not patients.

LCHF is Low Carb High Fat, a way to eat that seems to suit many diabetics. You eat very limited carbs and instead of carbs you eat fat. Most over weight people loose weight rapidly along with normalised blood glucose. Butter, duck fat, goose fat, lard, coconut oil, olive oil are fine, along with full fat dairy, cheese and fatty meat cuts and fat fish. You want to avoid margarine and most vegetable oils.
