I'm pre-diabetic i was told eight years ago that I was border line. But I have notice my BG creeping up so cutting my carbs lower. But I'm soooooo tired all the time its an effort to do anything.
Has anyone else had this problem?

I had a similar problem and have started eating a few carbs.
When you say the bg is creeping up - what level is it getting to?

I find that exercise is very important in controlling bg and have a few carbs helps me to be more active so is probsbly better for me.

I also think people have said the body eventually gets used to very low carbs and the tiredness goes away - could be I didn't give it a chance but happy with this.

Well BG has been between 7.5 and 9 two hours after eating. How many carbs do you eat a day? I try to keep to 55-60 I can't go any lower.

I have found that I feel dreadful for a few days while I'm cutting carbs, then suddenly I feel sooo much better!

It is like my body was so used to using the carb sugars that it forgot how to get energy from other foods. A few days of strict lo carbing and I sleep better, wake up full of beans, and have masses of energy.

Worth hanging on to get there!

Are you saying you shouldn't eat veg or fruit? I would like to know how many carbs other pre diabetics eat and what they eat for breakfast for instance? And do you ever cheat?

I go for 40 -50 g carbs - some days a little lower, some a little higher but never over 75 - I feel I'll if I eat more
For breakfast I sometimes have whey protein shake, sometimes some natural yogurt with chia seeds and toasted almonds, sometimes an egg with flaxseed bread or on a weekend I might have Brunch of bacon, egg & mushrooms or scrambled egg with smoked salmon

Hi what does flax seed bread taste like, also does whay powder taste like milk shake?
Your very good with the low carbs. How long have you been pre-diabetic? I really have to sort myself out.
I seem to have lost my willpower and can't get back to being more disciplined.

This is actually a very common side effect when people switch to a low carb diet. I had it when I started a ketogenic diet and it lasted about a week. I felt rotten and had what I can only describe as flu-like symptoms. When you get used to the diet, it does subside :)

Hi, I have around 50-60g carb a day, that includes about 20g carb in milk (I drink loads of tea - and I mean loads, about 10 mugs a day). Didn't really have any problem cutting my carb count, but there again I wasn't eating very many to start with. I think if you were on quite a high carb intake before then you will feel it much more when cutting down to this level.

The flaxseed bread is ok for making a sandwich or something - not the same as wheat bread but acceptable - I make it with 6 eggs,175g milled flaxseeds, 30g coconut oil and 1 tsp baking powder - pour into a loaf tin &bake I the oven for about 20 mins. I use Whey protein form Holland & Barrett ( precision) which I make up with lite soya milk to keep the carbs relatively low. The cookies & cream and strawberry flavours are nice - with the strawberry I sometimes pus an had full of raspberries or blackberries into the mix
I'm full blown diabetic ( for 17 years)but have reduced my blood results to non-diabetic levels following lox carb eating

Hello. I will explain my experiences but appreciate this works for me: it may not work for you or anyone else.

I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic 3 months ago although my numbers are slightly in the prediabetic range. But this was enough to scare me and do something about my diet. My diet has never been bad but I loved my bread and sandwiches and lattes.

In the past 3 months, I have lost over half a stone. It has been hard work. I basically have had All Bran for breakfast with fruit, a little yoghurt and full-fat milk. I snack on apples, fruit, have an avocado for lunch and generally eggs and fish for dinner. I also have 3 vices: cheese, dark chocolate and red wine. I have each of these every day.

Nearly every day, I feel mildly light-headed for a time. I eat probably just enough carbs to keep me alive. NB Disclaimer: I do not recommend this to anyone else. I lead a full and active life and feel soooo much better. I have more energy, lost weight and feel a lot better in myself.

From my personal experience, if you can put in the time and effort, it'll all be worth it. I keep reminding myself what life could be like as a T2 and if I can reverse this through diet, then anything is worth it.

Every day gets better and today, for me, I hit a major milestone when I stepped on the scales this morning!

hi everyone, just a quick question. usually my diet is ok (have been diagnosed with IGT just week ago) I dont eat bread mostly, potatoes occasionally and no processed sugar whatsoever ( i dont eat cookies, sweets, icecream and chocolate maybe once a month) and now when they told me I have prediabetes I decided to loose weight. yesterday I had corn crisps with sour cream and anchovies in the morning, mince (im also anaemic) and vegetable for lunch (no sauce and no bread/pasta) and had one orange and one cup of pistachio. That is for whole day however at night I felt soooo hungry that I had then 2 cups of blueberries. this morning i had to have two cups of blueberries again. and that pattern was same in last few days, i think maybe I need carbs but don't know what to do to solve that craving. is it ok to eat so much blueberries or should i include some carbs in my meals? sorry i know it is strange question but if anyone is willing to assist.... thanks

It can take a few weeks to adapt properly tto running on fats and ketones. It's worth persisting.
