I am so so tired, one day I can be full of beans the next day everything seems a struggle and I could sleep for ever.

My question is, if I were to go low-carb will this help with my tiredness and general feeling of "eugh"

x

Hi Nicola, welcome to the forum :)
You don't say if you're type 1 or type 2 or diabetic at all. High blood sugars can cause tiredness but so can many other things, if you haven't already done so, go have a chat with your GP. If you are type 2 and not on insulin, going low carb will help keep your blood sugars down and may help with your fatigue - it can't hurt to give it a try.

I'm also very tired after for example taking a long walk. I fall asleep 2-3 hours. I can't do anything else than just sit down or go to bed.

You could give it a try. Quite a few low carbs report energy levels they haven't seen in decades.

I used to nap, but not now. Mrs D and I fall asleep in front of the tv after 10pm but that's normal.

You could try going low-carb and see how you get on, as logindetails says high bg can cause tiredness as can numerous other medical conditions such as iron deficiency, if you don't feel any better soon then I would see your gp and have some blood tests carried out, just be sure to adjust your insulin doses as you do go lower carb so that you don't hypo, if in doubt come back and ask for advice.

Yes, That's A good thing to check your blood. I was anaemic, had b12 deficiency and vitamin D deficiency. I take b12 and D-vitamins and once a year,so far, I get iron infusion that helped my amount of red blood cells to get higher.
I thought this would help, as it did the summer of 2013, but this summer it got my blood levels get ok but I just have to rest,

Thank you all for your replies, I am having blood tests tomorrow, should get the results next week some time.
I may sound strange but I really do hope they find something, last night I didn't have the energy to do anything, it was scary, I just went to bed nad after a couple of hours sleep I seemed to be ok.

It's always better when they find something, cause then you can do something about it:)
Wish you the best, and try not to worry, instead you can google on energy smoothies without to much sweet fruits, find out such things as cinnamon lower your blood sugar, drink water with freshly squeezed lemon in the water, it's helpful to both diabetics and people with inflammatory diseases.
I started to eat raw food ( I didn't know that I was a diabetic since at least one year so I wasn't on any medication) and I got so "high" and full of energy that I was afraid that I would start preaching it.
I lost 17 kg in three month and managed to go from 2000 mg metformin a day to 1000 mg. I got rid of my blood pressure medication and cholesterol meds. After a year I had lost over 40 kg, from 95 to 58.
My aching legs was not aching anymore and I got my life back.
I don't mean that you have to change as much but you can add some nutritions that help your body deal with diabetes and get rid of one or two bad habits:).
Add some, get rid of some and change something by choosing a healthier alternative, it's not always easy but it's not as hard as you might think. The three first day can be the hardest.
Be nice to yourself and also be ware of that you might be depressed, if they can't find any problems you can get really tired when your body is sad and tired.

Thank you once again, I do like the sound of eating raw food especially as you have lost weight on it - I have about 8 stone to loose.

Any tips on getting started ?

One quick question - are you on statins?
One side effect for me due to Symvastatin was that I was having to lie down for a nap in the middle of the day.
As soon as I stopped the statin the problem went away.

I will absolutely come back to you about good raw food things, I have to check out my cookbooks and where I found inspiring videos on YouTube!!!
Blood pressure pill can make you tired and whimsy, the blood pressure can be worse when changing positions from sitting down do standing, worse than before medication. Also it has a tendency to variate your blood pressure from day to day.
I will get you some tips as soon as I have a little time to write back!!!;)ImageUploadedByDCUK Forum1416499150.281671.jpg
