Hello, my husband is type 2 - this morning for breakfast he had one large kipper grilled with two small tomatoes, 1 cup of tea no sugar and 2 slices of oatbread toast with butter - I am trying so hard to keep him in line yet he is still so very tired - his eyes are heavy - just feels tired. He is 65 and other than his diabetes has nothing else wrong. His sugar level is 10 and we are aiming to get back to 5 - which he was this time last year. Is is because his level is so high that he is always so tired and sleepy? We are starting a food diary and regular blood sugar checks to find out where we are going wrong, or right. He doesnt eat red meat at all - chicken is all the meat he eats - also the only fish he eats are kippers or tinned red salmon or smoked salmon. I do make him fish goujons occasionally with haddock but as these are fried I cannot make them too often. Dietician has told him not to eat too much pasta either - it is an absolute minefield as everything we read seems to contract the last thing we read!!!! Just need some friendly advice, thank you.

Here is the advice we offer to newly dignosed Diabetic's. There may be something there that you hadn't thought of. Anything you are not sure about just ask. When you mention sugar levels is that HbA1c at 10% or daily Bg levels. In either case that is high and will contribute to his overall feeling of tiredness etc. Get the levels down and things should improve.
