Hi I have been diagnosed type 2 a couple of months ago, diet controlled. I was wondering if anyone else suffers from fatigue and tiredness? I can sleep for hours and still wake up tired! Should I see my gp again ?

I did for a number of years pre-diabetes. Once I went onto low carb higher fat diet, and had drastically reduced my carbohydrate intake the feeling quickly disappeared. I used to feel so tired and bad at times that I could barely function. I'd seen my doctor and he blamed my weight, and I eventually decided it must be due to old age! I remember my elderly mother taking afternoon naps.

If you think you need to see your doctor then you must do so, but a low carbohydrate diet has helped me and others, so if you're not already eating that way you may find it improves matters for you as well.

Hi Sloops. Welcome to the forum. It all depends on what your eating and quantity? I found if my levels shot up, if I ate naturally sweetened things just on there own, would make me tired. Check your levels when feeling like this, keep a note in your diary to see if you can pin point the cause. Don't forget you are newly diagnosed, so your body is going through changes and adjustments for your individual condition. There' s no harm asking your pharmacist or your GP if it is the medication or quite possibly the diet your on, low carb?

Yes, I experience extreme fatigue, so much so that I need to go lie down immediately! And then I am dead to the world! I sleep so tight, that I hear nothing that goes on around me, I never used to sleep this deep. When I go shopping, after about an hour, I feel like wanna pass out!! I tire very quickly..... Its not nice, I am not used to feeling so weak!!

I can echo the replies above and as you're finding tiredness even first thing in the morning. When I get the diet right it's not so bad so trying to stay low carb - but it's hard some days. I'm a trainee at all this - diagnosed 5 months ago, but it is def getting better as the weight comes down and the carbs in a day drop.

tiredness seems to come with any chronic illness. It's probably a good idea to be discussing it with your doctor to make sure nothing has been missed, etc. If you're like me and have other conditions you're managing, then that just makes you fatigued anyhow as your body is in over drive with things. Also along with high sugar levels, there is depression that is common with diabetes that can also add to tiredness level. If the fatigue is real bad you could even have chronic fatigue syndrome or something of that nature. That's why I think it's best to discuss with your doc as there are so many variables. It could be as simple as keeping your sugar in normal range and stable... but then it could be other factors as I mentioned. Also I just had an iron infusion as I have iron malabsorption, another thing that makes you real tired... the list goes on I'm sure with what it could be. I wish you the best. :)
