Type 2 To test or not to test, that is the question

Since diagnosis last Sept I have reduced my HbA1c from 56 to 31, without the /use of a meter. My carb intake is between 100 to 150gms a day. After reading this forum I purchase a code free meter and have had over the last 38 readings an average of 6.3, with a high of 8.5 after lunch, and a low of 4.8. My fasting readings are between 5.8 and 6.9.
I know many members of this forum advocate testing, but given my HbA1c results is there any benefit to me doing this. At the moment I am testing fasting, pre and post rating, and if necessary also at bedtime.
Apart from the cost of strips ( even lower cost codefree ones) my fingers are getting sore, and I am beginning to obsess over the readings, which of itself can't be healthy.
My HCPs say I don't need to test, but I wanted other opinions.
I look forward to your comments.

I didn't test until after my 3 month HbA1c retest. I started then because it is going to be 12 months until my next HbA1c test, and I think I need to know that I am staying on track. I don't test after every meal, only first thing in the morning. I use an Accu Chek Fastclix finger pricker which doesn't make my fingers sore.

Probably not that is as long as your diabetes stays stable and you don't get an exacerbation of your condition were occasional testing would give you an early warning of that.

I test every day mainly because diabetes is a secondary condition and has some overlapping symptoms with my other condition, . I self medicate for the other condition and need to distinguish between the effects of the two conditions if I where to overdose on my meds and that can be very easy to do; it could be quite dangerous.
